CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — Five Lobos were named to 2014-15 Women’s Collegiate Golf All-American Scholars, the most for any team in the Mountain West.  Alexandra Moisand, Eva Saulnier, Ingrid Gutierrez, Kalyn Thayer and Katerina Jaeger were all named to the team.

All told, the Women’s Golf Coaches Association announced a total of 758 honorees across a host of NCAA Divisions.  In order to make the squad, a women’s golfer must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50, making it one of the toughest academic teams to qualify for.

While New Mexico led the Mountain West with five players on the squad, the Lobos probably had the highest percentage of its team make the squad as well, as 83% of the team was honored (five of six).  This comes after UNM narrowly finished second at the Mountain West Championships.

Of the five players earning All-American Scholar honors, two are freshmen in Ingrid Gutierrez of Cuautla, Mexico and Alexandra Moisand of Muret, France.  The other three are all sophomores in Katerina Jaeger of Stavanger, Norway, Eva Saulnier of Savonnaires, France, and Kalyn Thayer of Albany, Oregon.  UNM’s entire squad returns for head coach Jill Trujillo next year, but it was the academic honor that was foremost on her mind.

“I’m extremely proud of our team, not only to have five players earn such a high academic honor, but to lead the Mountain West,” said Trujillo.  “We were such a young team with four sophomores and two freshmen, so I think you couple the way we finished the season with our performance in the Mountain West Championships with the maturity that our student-athletes have shown in the classroom, and it bodes well for our future.  I’m excited to get the 2015-16 season started.”

Along with the second place finish at the Mountain West championships, sophomore Manon Molle’ won the individual MW title with Moisand and Gutierrez both finishing in the top-10.
