ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — It’s almost time for the 22nd Annual Women’s Football Clinic hosted by The University of New Mexico at Branch Field at University Stadium on Thursday night from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
The clinic not only gives women a first-hand look at the inner workings of the Lobo football program, and but it teaches the game to give those fans a better understanding on the nuances of Lobo football. The clinic also will provide attendees an opportunity to meet coach Davie, his staff and members of the Lobo football program. From the uniform to the playbook to the drills themselves, participants in the women’s clinic get their fill of Lobo football, with the emphasis on having fun and learning about the program.
This year, Women’s Football Clinic participants will be joined by Kristen Currie, Morning Weather Forecaster for KRQE News 13 & 2 KASA Fox and Rachel Jordan, CW Star. Currie (who we should note have perfect weather forecasted for Thursday) is ready for the big day.
“I am very excited to be joining UNM & the women of New Mexico in this year’s Women’s Football Clinic,” said Currie. I may not know how to run it in for a touchdown (yet!), but I do know that the Send-A-Kid program is a great cause which benefits many children in our community. See you out on the field, ladies… and Go Lobos!”
While they say weather forecasters are right about 85% of the time, Currie is 100% correct about the Send-A-Kid program. Last year, funds raised from the Women’s Football Clinic helped send over 420 underprivileged youth of New Mexico to Lobo football games and another 350 to Lobo women’s basketball.
The cost of the event is $30, and it takes place from 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Check-in is at the Tow Diehm Athletic building. Athletic clothing and sneakers are recommended. Participants must be 18 years of age or older are encouraged to click here in order to register in advance online or call 505-925-LOBO.
This event is made possible with the support of Magic 99.5 FM, 93.3 KOBFM, Fuddruckers, KRQE News, 2 KASA FOX, MY 50 & THE CW.
