ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — University of New Mexico head coach Bob Davie has announced the addition of three upperclass transfers to the 2015 roster. The new players are graduate transfer Travis Green of Kansas State, Jacob Girgle of Santa Barbara Community College and Everett Powell of Laney College. All three players have arrived on campus and started classes.
Green (Omaha, Nebraska/Omaha North HS), listed by Kansas State at 6-1, 207 pounds is a talented defensive back who played two seasons for the Wildcats. He played 10 career games after having his senior season end due to an injury after becoming a starting safety. Last season he had 18 tackles, two interceptions, and two passes defended along with a tackle for a loss. He picked up a career-best eight tackles against UTEP. Green graduated from Kansas State and is immediately eligible as a graduate transfer.
Overall for his career, he recorded 21 tackles. He previously played one season at Iowa Western Community College where he was named First Team All-Midwest Conference as a defensive back. He had two touchdowns on interception returns as IWCC won the NJCAA national championship in 2012.
Girgle (Rancho Cucmonga, Calif/Los Osos HS), a junior listed by SBCC at 6-0, 190 pounds, led Santa Barbara in tackles (70), solos (41), passes broken up (6) and interceptions (3). He also had a forced fumble and 2.5 tackles for a loss as he helped the Vaqueros to their first bowl game in 17 years.
He previously spent a year prior to his time at SBCC at College of the Desert. He played safety at SBCC but may play either safety or cornerback at UNM.
Powell (Livermore, Calif./Livermore HS), a sophomore listed by Laney College at 6-4, 240 pounds is a rangy linebacker who played in eight games with 19 tackles, five for loss. He also had a pair of sacks (for 20 yards) and a fumble recovery as Laney went 6-5 last year. He attended Livermore High School where he lettered as a defensive end and a tight end.
