New York, N.Y. –— Anyone who gets the chance to talk with Garrett Adcock knows that he is a pretty smart guy.  He was a Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District selection last season.  He was a Mountain West Academic All-Conference selection, along with a Mountain West and Lobo Scholar-Athlete.  Now if you have the internet and follow the NFL.com, you know it as well.

Adcock was listed by NFL.com’s Chase Goodbread as one of the 15 smartest players in college football.  The photo essay was a part of NFL.com’s 15 for ’15 series.

Adcock, who will be one of eight juniors in the FBS who have graduated already but still have two years of eligibility left, was listed at No. 5 on the list and is one of two Mountain West student-athletes on the list.  He was joined by Fresno State’s Justin Northern at No. 6.  Perhaps putting to rest the notion that offensive lineman aren’t smart, six dot the list, more than any other position.

Adcock, who redshirted in 2013 and started 10 games last year at right tackle, will either pick up another degree at UNM, unless he can get into UNM’s law school.  While one might think getting a law degree is a pretty lofty goal, that’s not Adcock.  No, Garrett’s end game is to get into medical school to be a hand surgeon.

Adcock, a graduate of Dallas Christian High school in Texas, was a key member of UNM’s offensive line that paved the way for a top-5 rushing finish last season.  In fact, UNM is the only current team to finish in the top-5 in rushing and average over 300 yards per game on the ground for three straight seasons.
