RENO, Nev – For the third time in the Mountain West Tournament the University of New Mexico baseball team was in a 10-run rule game. Unfortunately for the Lobos, they were on the wrong end of one for the first time as they lost to San Diego State 11-1 Saturday night to set up a winner-take-all championship game at 2 p.m. MT on Sunday.

The Lobos (32-26) took an early lead as they’ve done all tournament, but they couldn’t back it up with any more runs. Cory Voss drove in Sam Haggerty in the first with a sacrifice fly, but that would be all for UNM.

With two on and two outs in the second Haggerty smacked a pitch deep to left-center, but SDSU’s center fielder tracked it down as he crashed into the wall. That kept the game 1-0.

Victor Sanchez retired the first seven Aztecs (39-21) he faced, but with one out in the third the Aztecs recorded 10 straight hits and scored eight runs to take control. They added one in the fourth and two more in the fifth to reach the 10-run lead necessary to end the game early.

Danny Collier, who hadn’t played prior to Saturday since May 9 due to a knee injury that still hasn’t healed, recorded his second two-hit game of the day.

The championship game will be streamed on the Mountain West Network, and ESPN Radio 101.7 The TEAM will also carry the game.

Notes: Taylor Duree made his 64th career appearance, which is seventh all-time in school history.
