COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — 17 University of New Mexico track and field athletes were selected to the Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field All-Conference men’s and women’s teams on Monday.

The Lobos, who received a runner-up finish from the women and a third-place finish from the men during the four-day meet, saw eight men and a relay team claim 10 total honors, while seven women scored 10 total selections.

All-Mountain West selections are awarded to the top three finishers in each event at last weekend’s MW Outdoor Championships held atop the SDSU Sports Deck on the campus of San Diego State University.

For the men, Allan Hamilton led with two plaudits for his wins in the long jump and the triple jump. Also earning individual honors were Scott Bajere (100-meter run), Matt Bergin (10,000), Peter Callahan (1,500), Beau Clafton (javelin), Michael Ellis (javelin), Elmar Engholm (3000 steeplechase) and Django Lovett (high jump).

The men’s 4×100 meter relay team of Hamilton, Bajere, Ridge Jones and Carlos Wiggins also earned all-conference honors.

The 10 All-MW selections garnered by the men are the fewest since 2013 (also 10), but continues a seven-year streak of earning double-digit selections.

On the women’s side, three titlists were accorded honors, with Calli Thackery in the 1500, Alice Wright in the 10,000 and Jannell Hadnot in the triple jump. Thackery and Wright were also all-conference in the 5000.

Also receiving selections were Tamara Armoush (1500), Casey Dowling (long jump), Nicola Hood (3000 steeplechase) and Holly Van Grinsven (400, 100 hurdles).

The 10 all-conference nods for the Lobo women are the most since 2013, when the New Mexico women claimed 12.

The Lobos’ next competition will be  the NCAA West Preliminary Championship in Austin, Texas, on May 28-30 as they look to qualify to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 10-13.
