ALBUQUERUQUE, N.M. – University of New Mexico women’s tennis head coach Erica Jasper has announced that Ruth Copas has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Lobos in the fall of 2015.
“We are so excited to have signed Ruth Copas,” head coach Erica Jasper said. “Ruth is an excellent competitor and will fit very well into our program. She is hungry to continue to improve and we can’t wait to have her on campus next fall.”
Copas is coming to Albuquerque from Ireland with a wealth of tennis experience. She has claimed four national titles (Irish Close U23 Champion, National Winter Matchplay Champion, National Spring Matchplay Champion, and Wilson National Spring Champion). Additionally, Copas was a finalist at the Irish National Indoor Championships, represented Leinster in the the National Inter-Provincial Championships two consecutive years, has been ranked as high as No. 1 in the U18 rankings, and is currently ranked No. 5 in the senior rankings in Ireland.
Copas is the first to sign with the Lobos for the 2015-16 season.
