BRACKET IS HERE: http://i.turner.ncaa.com/sites/default/files/external/gametool/brackets/tennis-men_d1_2014.pdfALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Lobo men’s tennis team had to wait a little bit, but their name was slotted into the bracket facing Oklahoma State in the NCAA Tournament, putting New Mexico into the Tournament for the first time since the 2009 season. The Lobos will face the Cowboys in College Station on Friday, May 8 at 10 a.m. Mountain Time. Texas A&M is the host for the UNM pod in the tournament. The squad joins the Lobo women’s team in the tournament, giving UNM both tennis teams in the tournament for the first time since the 2004 season. New Mexico will be making its 12th appearance in the NCAA Tournament overall. UNM is 6-11 over its previous 11 appearances, having dropped four straight since beating Boise State in the regionals back in 1998. New Mexico lost to Boise State in the Mountain West semifinals, but were the regular season champions and went 20-10 overall and had wins over several ranked teams. The Lobos will face an Oklahoma State team that went 16-9 on the season, but the Cowboys have lost six of their last seven matches. However, OSU was ranked ninth in the latest ITA rankings (April 21). The Lobos are 5-3 all-time against Oklahoma State and amazingly the two programs haven’t played since 1990. OSU has won the last two in the series. The Lobos will have in their arsenal the past two Mountain West Freshmen of the Year in Hayden Sabatka (2014) and Bart Van Leijsen (2015), as well as Sam Iftihkar. Iftihkar was ranked 41st nationally before missing seven weeks with a hand injury. He has since returned and is ranked 98th in the latest ITA rankings.
