Under head coach Bob Davie, UNM’s camps have grown in number each year, especially with New Mexico high schools. Part of that can be attributed to Davie and UNM’s New Mexico Man program, in which before each home game a native New Mexican carries the state flag onto the Branch Field at University Stadium turf. In addition, Davie’s instance on having a solid contingent of New Mexico players has certainly helped as well. On the spring camp roster, nearly 25% of all players were New Mexico natives (21 of 86).
Last year in UNM’s Rio Grande Rivalry win over the New Mexico State Aggies, the winning touchdown was scored by Rio Rancho’s Reece White, and the margin of victory (three points) was due to the leg of Rio Rancho native and kicker Zack Rogers.
