ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico men’s soccer team will face Nebraska-Omaha in its final exhibition of the spring season this Saturday in Denver at 6 p.m. The match will take place at the Real Colorado Soccer Complex.
After narrowly dropping its exhibition opener 1-0 to AZ United SC of the USL, the Lobos have reeled in three straight victories. It started with a 4-2 triumph over Fort Lewis at Robertson Field on March 28. That was followed by a 2-1 overtime victory against the always pesky Air Force Falcons the following Saturday. Then just last weekend the Lobos defeated Denver University 3-1 in Taos, N.M.
“We’ve seen Nebraska-Omaha on tape and it’s a really good team,” UNM head coach Jeremy Fishbein said. “It’s hard-working, committed, and this will be a big game for them. We’re excited for the challenge. We’re playing really well so we hope to finish the spring on a good note.”
The Mavericks are reclassifying to Division I and went 10-5-2 to claim a share of the Summit League title last season. It was the best season in the young history of the program.
