ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico volleyball team will be adding one more to its 2015 squad as outside hitter Marisa Doran signed a National Letter of Intent Wednesday.

“Marisa brings great ball control and strong skills to the team,” said head coach Jeff Nelson. “She has good size and lots of experience.”

Doran comes to New Mexico from Irvine Valley College, where she played for two seasons in court volleyball and sand volleyball.  She helped lead the Lasers to back-to-back state championship appearances which included a perfect 27-0 record for first place in the 2014 season. The Lasers finished third in 2013 with a 25-2 record.

On the sand side, Doran helped lead her squad to a state championship title as she played as the number one pair and will look to help the Lobos out on the sand side of things as well.

“She is also a great sand player which will really raise the bar on that side of the program.”

The outside hitter earned many accolades during her two years as a Laser, including a two-time First Team All-Orange Empire Conference selection, All-Southern California Region selection and all-tournament team in 2014, and was the recipient of the Orange Empire Conference Champion of Character Award in 2013.

During her high school year, she spent her time at Villa Park High School in Villa Park, California. She was a top scholar athlete and was a first and second team All-Century League selection.

Not only is she committed to winning on the court but she wins in the classroom. She finished her high school career with a 4.70 GPA and received her AA degree in natural science and mathematics from IVC.
