ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico men’s soccer team will host the Air Force Falcons this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. on Robertson Field for its second and final home match of the spring. Admission will once again be free, and the match is open to the public.
The Falcons have played the Lobos tough over the last few seasons, whether in MPSF play or in exhibitions. UNM defeated Air Force 1-0 on Robertson Field last spring, but fell to the Falcons 1-0 in Colorado Springs in an exhibition last August.
“Air Force always presents a great challenge,” head coach Jeremy Fishbein said. “They’re a team that loves to play against us, and they’re confident against us. They’re fit, tough, and they’re leaders as they should be. We need to be good on the ball and disciplined, but our guys have been training well. I think it’s a good opportunity for us.”
The Lobos are coming off a 4-2 win over Fort Lewis last Saturday, which featured goals from returning starters Niko Hansen and Chris Wehan as well as two players who redshirted last season in Wayde Scibilia and Olav Hovstad.
Following this weekend the Lobos will play two more matches away from home. The first will be on Saturday, April 11 at 3 p.m. against Denver University in Taos, and the Lobos’ final match of the spring will be on Saturday, April 18 at 6 p.m. in Denver against Nebraska-Omaha.
