LOGAN, Utah – The University of New Mexico Lobos struggled to get things going at the plate as it fell 4-0 to Utah State in the first Mountain West conference game of the season on Friday afternoon.
Utah State’s pitcher Noelle Johnson kept the Lobos off balance at the plate, allowing just one hit and striking out six Lobos. The only hit of the day came from senior Brandi Heimburg. The lone hit was the lead off hit in the fourth inning. Along with the hit, Heimburg walked to lead off the first inning, making her the only base runner of the game for the Lobos.
Utah State made a third-inning surge, scoring three. The Aggies added one more in the fifth to cap their scoring for the game.
Krissy Fortner took the loss in the circle, dropping to 3-2 on the season. She allowed four runs, one earned, all earned, off eight hits while walking one and striking out four.
The Lobos are now 16-13 on the season and 0-1 in Mountain West play. They will look to rebound as they continue with the Utah State series with a single game Saturday at 1 p.m. MT. Visit GoLobos.com for live video and live stats.
