Saturday, March 21, 2 p.m. CT – New Mexico vs Tulane
DALLAS, Texas – The No. 41 University of New Mexico women’s tennis team is back on the road this weekend for a pair of matches against SMU and Tulane.
“This is another opportunity weekend for us,” head coach Erica Jasper said. “Both SMU and Tulane, although very different teams, are very good and well-coached. Both teams are coming off some big recent wins, so we’ll need to be ready to battle.”
No. 41 New Mexico
The Lobos picked up a dominating 7-0 victory against the New Mexico State Aggies last Saturday in the Rio Grande Rivalry match at the McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium. UNM’s jumped from No. 48 to No. 41 in the most recent ITA team standings (posted on March 17). The Lobos are currently 10-5 at home, 1-0 in MWC play, 8-1 at home, 2-4 on the road, and 4-4 against ranked opponents.
UNM vs No. 74 SMU
UNM opens the weekend with a match against the SMU Mustangs at 3 p.m. CT on Friday afternoon at the SMU Tennis Complex. The Mustangs are 9-3 on the season and recently tallied big road wins over No. 63 Hawaii and Cal State Fullerton. SMU is currently being led by Dasha Sharapova and Vaszilisza Bulgakova in singles play. Holly Verner and Hristina Dishkova are leading the Mustangs in doubles action as they currently hold a 20-4 record together. The Lobos lead the all-time series against SMU 5-0. The two teams have not squared off against each other since 2000 where UNM won, 8-1.

UNM vs Tulane
The Lobos will stay in Dallas for a match against the Tulane Green Wave at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday. Tulane is currently 12-5 on the season and 1-1 in AAC play. Before falling to Houston in a St. Patrick’s Day match up, Tulane was on a five-match winning streak. The Lobos have never won a match against the Green Wave as Tulane leads the all-time series 4-0. The two opponents have not met since 2010 where UNM lost 2-4.
