ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team has accepted an invitation to play in the Women’s Basketball Invitational, the school announced Sunday.
The Lobos will host a first-round game Wednesday night against an opponent to be determined Monday night after the NCAA and WNIT draws are announced.
Because of a scheduling conflict with WisePies Arena, aka, The Pit, UNM will play the first game at Johnson Center at 7 p.m.
The WBI is a 16-team single-elimination tournament that will take place over the next two weeks with higher seeds awarded home games.
The Lobos are 20-12 on the season and finished second in the Mountain West regular season. They advanced to the MW Tournament championship game Friday but lost to tournament champion Boise State 66-60.
UNM, which started 1-7 against a demanding schedule that included several nationally ranked foes, won 19 of its last 24 games and boasts the Mountain West Coach of the Year in Yvonne Sanchez, All-Mountain West, All-MW Defensive Team and All-Mountain West Tournament honoree Antiesha Brown and All-MW Freshman team selection Cherise Beynon.
All tickets to Wednesday night’s event are $10 and will go on sale Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. at the Lobo Ticket Office inside The Pit.
More information about the event – parking, shuttle busses, etc. – and the opponent will be provided on Monday.
