Men?s Tennis Prepares to Face Utah, BYU

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The No. 45 University of New Mexico men’s tennis team is back on the road this weekend for a pair of matches against regional opponents Utah and BYU.

No. 45 New Mexico

The Lobos are coming off of a successful weekend at home. UNM swept its doubleheader with Georgia State last Saturday and posted a dominating 4-0 win over No. 39 Penn on Tuesday. The Lobos are now 11-7 on the season and 4-0 at home. UNM remains at No. 45 in the latest ITA team rankings while senior Samir Iftikhar comes in at No. 62 in singles rankings. Hayden Sabatka and Bart Van Leijsen cracked the doubles rankings coming in at No. 67.

Utah

UNM kicks off the weekend with a match against the Utah Utes at 6 p.m. MT in Salt Lake City on Friday evening. The Utes currently hold a 6-2 home record. They are lead by sophomore Parker McGuiness in singles play who is currently 11-7 on the season. UU Senior Cedric Willems and junior Matt Cowley hold an impressive 8-2 doubles record.

The Lobos and the Utes squared off last season where UU posted an upset victory over UNM at the Linda Estes Tennis Center.

BYU

The Lobos will wrap up the weekend with a match against the BYU Cougars at 12 p.m. MT in Provo, Utah. BYU is currently 8-8 on the season and 0-3 against ranked opponents. The Cougars are led by senior Francis Sargeant in singles action.
