ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico women’s soccer program and first-year coach Heather Dyche announce the 2015 Lobo spring exhibition schedule.
UNM, coming off a 10-6-2 season and a third-place finish in the Mountain West in 2014, will play a six-game schedule to give the squad some advance work for the 2015 season.
“These games will help give me a better feel for the areas we’ll need to improve as we familiarize ourselves with each other,” Dyche said. “You can only do so much in practice before you have to go out and take on other teams to get a sense of your team’s personality and talents. We are really looking forward to playing such quality games this spring.”
The Lobos will open on the road with games at Arizona State and Brigham Young on March 21 in Tucson, Ariz.
The Sun Devils went 12-6-4 and 4-4-3 in the Pac-12 last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. The Cougars were 13-5-3, 7-1-1 in the West Coast Conference and lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
UNM will then play a pair of games at the Lobo Soccer Complex against Denver University and Fort Lewis on April 4 and April 12, respectively. The Pioneers were 10-8-2 and 5-3 in the Summit League in 2014. The SkyHawks finished 6-8-5 and 5-5-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The Lobos will go back out on the road to play Texas Tech on April 18 and UTEP on April 26. The powerful Red Raiders were 16-4-2 and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen (third round) of the NCAA Tournament last fall.
The Miners also had a strong season, finishing 12-5-4 before getting knocked off in the championship game of the Conference USA Tournament on penalty kicks.
