College Sports Madness on Monday named University of New Mexico senior women’s basketball player its Mountain West Player of the Week.
Brown averaged 17 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals during UNM’s wins over Co-Mountain West leader Colorado State and Nevada. She also was 3-of-5 from beyond the 3-point arc during the two games.
The Clovis, N.M., native also was instrumental in helping the Lobo defense hold its two foes to 29-of-97 shooting (29.9 percent).
Against Colorado State, Brown was 6-of-12 from the floor and 2-of-4 from 3-point range. She also had three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
The Lobos held the Rams to 24.1 percent shooting (13-of-54), the lowest by a Lobo opponent.
Against Nevada, Brown was on fire, shooting 9-of-14 from the floor (64.3 percent) and 1-of-1 from the 3-point arc.
She added five rebounds, two assists and two steals in 25 minutes. She scored six points late in the first half that kept the Wolf Pack from cutting into UNM’s 14-point lead that it took into intermission. Despite playing only 25 minutes, Brown finished just two points shy of her season high on Saturday, scoring 20 in the easy win.
The co-MW-leading Lobos (14-10, 10-3 MW) will go for their eighth straight win on Wednesday night when they travel to San Diego State.
