ALBUQUEQURE, N.M. – After playing their last eight dual matches on their home turf, the Lobos are finally hitting the road for a pair of away matches. The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team will face Denver on Saturday at 4 p.m. MT and Colorado on Sunday at 11 a.m. MT.
“We have another tough weekend on deck,” head coach Erica Jasper said. “Both teams are very good top to bottom and as our first road trip of the spring, it will be important that we do a good job with preparation and details. Both matches present two very good opportunities for us, so it should be a fun weekend for the Lobos!”
The Lobos, who recently cracked the ITA team rankings coming in at No. 63, are off to a successful start in the spring campaign as they sit at a 7-1 record. However UNM’s matches against DU and CU will serve as the first road dual matches of the Lobos’ season making it their first opportunity to showcase their skills away from home.
UNM opens the weekend with a match against the No. 64 DU Pioneers (1-2) at the Colorado Athletic Club on Monaco. Last season when the two opponents squared off, the Lobos came up short 3-4, so UNM will be playing for revenge.
The Lobos then travel to Boulder, Colo. for another tough match as they are set to face the CU Buffaloes (5-1) at the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center. UNM claimed a 5-2 upset victory over No. 54 CU last season, so the Lobos can expect the Buffaloes to come ready to compete.
A full recap and results will be posted on golobos.com and on the UNM Women’s Tennis Facebook page following each match.
