ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico Men’s Basketball program will don white uniforms with pink numbers and lettering when it hosts the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015. The uniforms are just one part of the day’s activities to help raise breast cancer awareness and will mark the first time in program history the Lobos have worn jerseys with pink in them.
“Bringing awareness to breast cancer is an important cause,” said head coach Craig Neal. “It’s a disease that affects so many of our families and friends and has directly affected our program. To help raise awareness and money towards research and treatment is crucial. Our program is proud to be a part of our university, community and state, and helping make a difference is part of being a Lobo.”
The game-worn special uniforms will be auctioned off in the north concourse during the game with all proceeds going to Hugh Greenwood’s “Pink Pack” charity, which raises money for the UNM Cancer Center. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game, and “Pink Pack” t-shirts will also be available for purchase with all proceeds going to Greenwood’s foundation.
“I’ve wanted to be able to give something back to the Albuquerque community because they have given me so much support throughout my career,” said Hugh Greenwood. “The Pink Pack was my way of giving back, and it has been a great success so far. Having a pink game with new uniforms is really something special. To be able to bring more awareness and attention to breast cancer means a lot to me, this program and everyone who has been touched by this disease.”
