ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – College Sports Madness has announced its preseason Mountain West All-Conference teams and the Lobos landed three, including Freshman of the Year Chelsea Johnson, first team Brandi Heimburg and second team Mariah Rimmer. The teams were announced Sunday morning.
As a freshman, Johnson will be the Lobos starting catcher. The Riverside, Calif. native is a four-year letterwinner at Riverside Poly High School. She was a two-time Inland Valley league champion and earned many accolades in her four years, including First Team All-Inland Valley honors her senior season. 
Senior Brandi Heimburg was a major contributor in the 2014 season as the Lobos’ primary starter in right field. As a 2014 First Team All-Mountain West selection, Heimburg started 45 games and finished the season with a .388 batting average which was second best on the squad. Heimburg had a total of 57 hits with 25 runs scored and was perfect in stolen bases (6-6).
Mariah Rimmer has started every game of her career thus far and is the Lobos’ anchor in the outfield. Last season, she led the team with 30 runs scored, five triples and had a team-best 13 stolen bases. She finished the season hitting .308 with 49 hits and 32 RBIs. In the outfield, Rimmer had a .974 fielding percentage with a total of 68 putouts.
The Lobos will head to Tempe, Ariz. for the fourth straight season to take part in the Kajikawa Classic. UNM opens the season with Seattle U on Thursday, February 6 at 9 a.m. The Lobos first home game is on March 3 against UTEP.
