ARLINGTON, TexasSaQwan Edwards, who led the Lobos in passes defended this past season, has been selected to participate in the College Gridiron Showcase, which will take place on January 31 in Arlington, Texas.

The game is open to all Divisions in the NCAA and NAIA, although most of the rosters are comprised of Division I players.  The two teams are split with Edwards playing for the Desperados, taking on the Wranglers.  Edwards’ team will be coached by former Oklahoma running back and former L.A. Ram Marcus Dupree, while the Wranglers will be coached by former Dallas Cowboy Doug Cosbie.

Edwards is one of seven cornerbacks on the roster, and he is one of six Mountain West players in the game (Dee Hart, RB, Colorado State; Grant Hedrick, QB, Boise State; David Peterson, OL, San Jose State; Josh Shirley, DE, UNLV, BJ Larsen, DE, Utah State; Jared Roberts, PK, Colorado State).

Edwards last season had 42 tackles, 3.5 for loss with a pair of interceptions and nine passes broken up.  He started his Lobo career as a running back but switched to corner last season.  Overall Edwards played 30 games in his career with 85 tackles, 5.5 TFLs, 16 passes broken up, three fumble recoveries, a blocked kick and two touchdowns.

It marks the third straight season that head coach Bob Davie has had a player advance to a postseason All-Star game, as Dillon Farrell played in the 2014 East-West Shrine Game.  2013 saw two players honored with Lucas Reed also playing in the East-West Shrine Game in 2013, and long snapper Evan Jacobsen playing in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in Carson, California.
