For her strong play in back-to-back games last week, University of New Mexico senior guard Antiesha Brown earned Mountain West Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday.
She also earned College Sports Madness MW Player of the Week honors for her efforts against San Diego State and Utah State.
The 5-foot-10 Clovis native averaged 20 points during the Lobos’ two MW wins – she had 21 points in UNM’s 62-53 over the Aztecs on Wednesday night and 19 points in a 60-59 Lobo win over the Aggies on Saturday afternoon.
Against SDSU, Brown played a season-high 36 minutes and contributed four rebounds, four assists and two steals. The Lobo captain scored nine points during an eight-minute span that helped her team extend a 45-53 lead to 62-51 with less than a minute left in the game.
She came back on Saturday and had three rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots and two steals against Utah State. Brown scored seven points during an 11-0 Lobos run in the first half that turned a 13-8 deficit into a 19-13 lead. UNM never trailed again.
Brown also assisted on a Bryce Owens 3-point that extended the Lobos’ lead to 59-54.
Brown shot 12 of 28 from the floor (42.9 percent) and 16 of 19 from the free-throw line (84.2 percent) in the two games.
The award was the first for the Lobos (6-9, 2-2 MW) this season. UNM, which has won five of its last seven, heads back out on the road for games at Air Force at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night and at Boise State at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
