ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – University of New Mexico senior guard Antiesha Brown has been nominated for the Allstate Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Good Works Team, the WBCA announced today.
This prestigious community service award recognizes a distinguished group of student-athletes who have demonstrated a commitment to enriching the lives of others and contributing to the greater good in their communities.
An honorable-mention All-Mountain West selection last season, Brown averaged 14.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game on the court in 2013-14. She leads the team this season with a 13.5-point average, heading into tonight’s game against No. 4 Texas.
In the classroom, Antiesha has a 3.46 grade point average and earned both Academic All-Mountain West and Mountain West Scholar-Athlete honors last season. She has her undergraduate degree in University Studies and is on schedule to graduate in June with a master’s degree in Sports Administration.
Antiesha is a team captain in 2014-15, but her leadership transcends the basketball court. In the community, Antiesha has volunteered her time visiting the UNM Children’s Hospital. She has worked with the Notah Begay Foundation that fights to reduce child obesity and Type 2 diabetes and improve the health of Native American Children, participated in the Rio Grande Down Syndrome Network Buddy Walk, contributed time for the Special Olympics of New Mexico, participated in the Relay for Life event for the American Cancer Society and taken part in the Lobo Fever Adoption Event, in which adoption-available children interact with approved adoptive families.
A distinguished voting panel will select a five-member team from the 56 Division I nominees in February.
