AUBURN, Wash. – After leading her team to its first state volleyball title, future Lobo Carson Heilborn has been named Washington state’s Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year. The honor was announced last Wednesday.

“This is great honor for Carson,” said head volleyball coach Jeff Nelson. “Washington is a very good volleyball state and she had an amazing year leading her team to a 36-0 record. I am excited she is going to be a Lobo.”

The Auburn Riverside High School setter put together a total of 843 assists to go along with 177 kills on the season for a perfect 36-0 record.

Heilborn was named the South Puget Sound League 3A MVP and was a first team All-3A tournament selection. She is just the fourth Auburn Riverside student-athlete to receive Gatorade Player of the Year honors and the first for the Ravens’ volleyball program.

The four-year starter for the Ravens signed a National Letter of Intent on November 12 to play for the Lobos in 2015.

“I chose to play at UNM because the coaching staff is amazing and all of the players are so nice, welcoming and very talented,” said Heilborn. “I am looking forward to learning from two coaches that are such experienced and gifted setters. UNM also has many opportunities in the fields of study I am interested in, such as, art, education and psychology.”
