ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – University of New Mexico men’s soccer player Josh Dye was named Second Team Academic All-America by CoSIDA Tuesday. The junior midfielder boasts a 4.05 cumulative GPA in electrical engineering, which was the highest GPA among all 33 men’s student-athletes honored.

Dye is the first Academic All-American for the program since Levi Rossi in 2012, and the first to be named to at least the second team since Simon Ejdemyr was a First Team honoree in 2009. This is the third academic award for Dye this year as he was also named CoSIDA Academic All-District and to Conference USA’s All-Academic Team.

An Albuquerque native that attended La Cueva High School, Dye started 17 games for UNM this season and led all midfielders in minutes with 1,370. A central defensive midfielder, he helped the Lobos post eight shutouts this season and concede just 0.88 goals per game. He earned his only assist of the year on Oniel Fisher’s game-winning goal against Missouri State on Oct. 12.
