ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – The Air Force Falcons will pay a visit to the University of New Mexico on Tuesday and senior Chantale Riddle and redshirt junior Elsa Krieg will look to claim a victory in their final game as a Lobo.
Air Force comes to Albuquerque with a 13-18 overall record and currently sits in eighth place in the Mountain West with a 7-10 record. The Falcons are coming off a five-set victory over Fresno State last week. The Falcons took the match by scores of 25-17, 22-25, 25-20, 22-25 and 15-7.
The Falcons are hitting .231 on the season which is fifth highest percentage in the Mountain West. They are fourth in assists at 12.56 per set and in kills with 13.24 per set. Air Force is sixth in digs 13.81 and 10th in blocks at 1.90 per set.
Last week, the Lobos suffered a tough five-set loss to Fresno State. It was the fourth straight match between the two teams that went to five sets. The Lobos struggled on the passing side of things, falling by scores of 18-25, 26-24, 25-22, 22-25 and 14-16.
The Lobos outhit Fresno State .338-.329 and out-blocked them 12.5-5 but the Bulldogs tallied more kills and more digs that the Lobos, putting down 78 kills and picking up 51 digs.
Chantale Riddle recorded her 14th double-double of the season with 21 kills and 14 digs, bringing her 20 kills away from breaking the Mountain West all-time career kills record. Cassie House and Devanne Sours combined for 25 kills with 14 and 11 respectively. Simone Henderson put down 11 kills for a .529 hitting percentage.
With the loss, the Lobos moved into fifth place. They are now a half game behind Boise State. Colorado State picked up the MW title while UNLV and Wyoming sit in second and third.
For the season, the Lobos are hitting .219 with averages of 12.77 kills per set, 11.88 assists per set, 15.01 digs per set and 3.08 blocks per set. In conference matches only, the Lobos are hitting .222 with averages of 13.24 kills per set, 12.37 assists per set, 15.61 digs per set and 3.11 blocks per set.
LOBOS IN THE NATION…The Lobos are fifth in the nation in blocks per set at 3.08. They also rank fourth in total team blocks with 345 blocks this season. All season the Lobos have held their opponents to a low hitting percentage. They rank 25th in the nation as they hold their opponents to a .157 hitting percentage.
Senior Chantale Riddle had been a huge threat in the national ranks as well as she is in the top 50 of two different categories. She ranks 46th in total blocks with a 136 and is 47th in points per set with 4.59. Simone Henderson ranks 38th in blocks per set at 1.29 and Skye Gullatt ranks 49th at 1.26 blocks per set.
LOBOS IN THE CONFERENCE…In the conference the Lobos are ranked in the top 3 in three categories. They are ranked third with a .157 opposing hitting percentage, second in blocks per set at 3.08 and first in digs per set at 15.01. In conference matches only, the Lobos rank in the top 3 in three categories; third in assists per set (12.37), tied first with 3.11 blocks per set and first in digs at 15.61 per set.
Riddle is ranked in two categories for all matches. She is first in points with 4.60 per set, second in kills with 3.81 kills per set. Johnson is first in double-doubles with 16.
For conference matches only, Riddle is first in two categories. She is first with 4.60 points per set. She is second in kills per set with 3.94. Julia Warren moves to third in digs per set at 4.09 and Johnson and Riddle are tied for first in double-doubles with 9.
TWO SENIORS PLAY FINAL MATCH FOR LOBOS…Tuesday, Nov. 25 against Air Force will be the final match for seniors Chantale Riddle and Elsa Krieg. Both Riddle and Krieg have been a huge part of Lobo volleyball the past four years.
Riddle goes down as one of the most decorated players in UNM volleyball history after picking up the all-time career attempts, points and kills record this season. She is a two-time all-american. two-time all-region and a two-time All-Mountain West selection. Riddle has been named as the MW Player of the Week twice this season and four times in her career. She will graduate in December of 2014 with a degree in family studies.
Krieg has been a leader for the Lobos on and off the court. Her time on the court was limited in her four years due to two ACL injuries, one her sophomore season and one this season. Krieg played a total of 76 matches in her career and tallied a total of 271 kills in the middle. She is fifth on UNM volleyball’s all-time list with a .291 hitting percentage and record eight aces on Aug. 31, 2012 which is the second in UNM’s history for aces in a single match. Krieg will graduate in May with a degree in interpersonal communication with a minor degree in family studies.
