ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team, ranked No. 20 in the current Golfweek.com/Sagarin poll and No. 24 in the Golfstat.com poll, is proud to announce the signing of four student-athletes for the 2015-16 season to help the program continue its success on a national level.
Sean Carlon, an Albuquerque native and product of Hope Christian School, Augustin Holé, a product of Cherbourg, France, Samuel Kim out of Irvine, Calif., and Tiger Lee, a Hong Kong native currently residing in Howey in the Hills, Fla., all have signed letters of intent to attend UNM next fall.
Here are brief capsules of each player:
Sean Carlon, Albuquerque, N.M. (Hope Christian School)
- A two-time Class A-AAA individual state champion (2013-14) and member of the Huskies’ back-to-back team championships.
- Listed as the No. 49 golfer among the class of 2015 in the National Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings.
- Has won four tournaments in five events so far in 2014 with a 69.2 strokes-per-round average.
- Earned medalist honors five times in nine tournaments in 2013-14.
- Had three top-10 finishes in Future Collegians World Tour Events, including a runner-up finish at the Grayhawk Raptor Tournament in Scottsdale, Ariz.
- Tied for second at the 2014 FCWT Classic at Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz., on Nov. 1-2.
- Tied for 12th at the 2014 AJGA Goodman Networks Junior at Timarron in Southlake, Texas in August, 2014.
- Second at the 2014 AJGA PING Phoenix Junior at ASU Karsten in Tempe, Ariz. in June, 2014.
- Tied for fourth at the 2014 FCG San Diego Junior Amateur Championship in January, 2014.
Augustin Holé, Cherbourg, France
- The No. 207 player in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and is ranked behind only Gavin Green, Victor Perez and Sam Saunders among current Lobos on the team.
- Finished second at the Championnat de France Cadet on Oct. 28-29.
- Finished second in the 132-player field at the French Boys Stroke/Match Play Amateur Championship in Le Pian Médoc, France, in April of 2014.
- Set a course record with a 64 during the Intermarket Cup at the Fontenay sur Mer Golf Club in July of 2013.
- Had top-20 finishes at the German Boys 2013 Amateur Championship and the Coupe Frayssineau Mouchy 2014 Tournament.
Samuel Kim, Irvine, Calif. (Northwood High School)
- The No. 31 golfer at the National Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings for the class of 2015.
- Fifth place at the Toyota Tour Cup College Showcase in Dana Point, Calif., in March of 2014.
- Finished second at the 2014 Los Angeles City Junior Championship in April.
- Won a 2014 US Junior Amateur Qualifying Tournament in Fresno, Calif., in June, 2014 .
- Tied for seventh at the 2014 AJGA LA Junior Open in Los Angeles in August.
- Tied for sixth – AJGA Under Armour/Jordan Spieth Championship in Austin, Texas in August, 2014.
- Was the 2013 champion at the Junior All-Star tournament in Arroyo Grande, Calif.
- Runner-up at the 2013 AGGA Junior Challenge in Beaumont, Texas.
- Winner at the 62nd Annual Gail Stockton Memorial in San Bernadino, Calif., in 2012.
- Won the TTC Santa Ana Qualifying Tournament in 2012.
Tiger Lee, Howey in the Hills, Fla. (via Hong Kong)
- The No. 179 golfer in the National Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings for the class of 2015.
- Tied for first at the IMG Junior Golf Tour Tournament at the Juliette Falls Golf Club in Dunnellon, Fla. in March of 2014.
- Tied for fourth at the 2014 AJGA Under Armour/Hunter Mahan Championship in Frisco, Texas in March, 2014.
- Tied for 19th at the 2014 AJGA Wells Fargo Junior Classic in Johns Creek, Ga., in April, 2014.
- Runner-up (in a playoff) at the Exide Technologies Junior Open in Johns Creek, Ga., in 2013.
- Tied for second in the JWU Series Challenge in Orange Park, Fla., in 2013.
- Tied for sixth at the Optimist International Tournament of Champions in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., in 2013.
- Third-place finish at the GOJGT Callaway Qualifier in Orlando, Fla., in May of 2012.
- Fifth at the Junior All-Star Invitational in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., in 2012.
