University of New Mexico men’s golfer Gavin Green is 2 for 2, even though he is not alone.
For the second consecutive month, the Lobo senior shared Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Month honors with San José State’s Cody Blick for the months of October and November.
The two were co-winners of the award for September.
Green won the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic earlier this month in El Paso, Texas. Green shot a 14-under 199, including a tournament-tying 9-under 62 in the second round. The event features all the returning All-America honorees from the previous season.
Green won among a field of 20 by a whopping seven strokes. It extended his own school record with seven career individual victories, and he became only the second golfer in the tournament’s 40-year history two win twice.
He also had ninth- and 16th-place finishes at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational and the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in Orlando, Fla., and Dallas, respectively.
Green shot an 8-under 208 at the Tavistock and a 6-over 219 at the Royal Oaks. Between the two events, Green finished better than 14 other top-50 competitors.
He posted an impressive 69.55 strokes per round over nine rounds during the months of October and November.
Blick on the Price’s Give ’Em Five Invitational in El Paso in October and finished 11th at the Alister McKenzie Invitational. He averaged 68.3 strokes per round over six rounds.
