ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Three University of New Mexico men’s soccer players were named to Conference USA’s All-Academic Team the league office announced Wednesday. Senior Nick Miele, junior Josh Dye and freshman Jason Beaulieu were all honored as the Lobos led the conference with three selections.
Miele was also on the All-Academic team last season. He holds a 3.771 GPA in liberal arts and was on both the 2014 Academic All-District IV Team as well as the 2013 NSCAA Scholar All-Region Team. He has played every minute of every game this season and was named Second Team All-Conference USA on Monday.
Dye has a 4.053 GPA in electrical engineering, was selected along with Miele as academic all-district last month and finished runner-up for the NCAA’s Elite 89 Award last season. He has started 16 games for the Lobos this season and has been crucial as a central defensive midfielder to the success of UNM’s defense. The Lobos have posted eight shutouts and are third in the conference with a 0.81 goals against average.
Beaulieu, who has freshman eligibility but sophomore academic standing, has the highest Lobo GPA with a 4.33 mark in engineering. He is 6-3-0 this season, and his six wins rank second most by a freshman keeper in Lobo history. Also, he has five shutouts, which is tied for the most by a freshman in program history.
The Lobos are currently in Norfolk, Va., for the Conference USA Tournament, which begins tonight. The Lobos will face the host Old Dominion Monarchs at 5 p.m. MT, and the match will be streamed live on the C-USA Digital Network here.
