ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico swimming and diving team comes off of only one week of training before jumping back into competition for this weekend’s meet against Northern Arizona. The dual meet against the Lumberjacks stands as the third consecutive weekend the Lobos have competed this year and the second out of three home meets the team will be hosting for the 2014-15 season. It will begin on Sat, Oct. 25 in the Seidler Natatorium with springboard events to start at 9:30 a.m. and swimming to commence at 11:00 a.m.
The two saw each other in a dual meet last year which was also both team’s 2013-14 season opener. The Lobos traveled to Lumberjack territory where New Mexico ultimately fell at the Wall Aquatic Center after a final score of 166.5 to 131.5.
This year Northern Arizona will be traveling to the Duke City with 17 letter winners, 10 freshmen, and a clean record as they will contest New Mexico for their first official meet of the year.
UNM currently holds a 2-1 record thus far after competing against Wyoming, Northern Colorado, and Air Force Academy. The Lobos have already taken a bite out of this season’s battles with the aforementioned competitors and have also gained experience after participating in the Denver Relay Meet.
The steps the Lobos have already taken into the officially recorded meets of the season might be a leg-up compared to the 0-0 record the Lumberjacks hold. New Mexico will also be leading into the home meet with momentum from a 180-119 win over the Air Force Academy Falcons last weekend.
With all factors considered the Lobos and Lumberjacks will prove for an interesting match-up in this weekend’s dual meet.
