AUSTIN, Texas – The University of New Mexico women’s golf team finished its fall season Tuesday at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational and once again the Lobos saved their best round for last.

The Lobos turned in a team card of 306 on Tuesday to finish in 14th place, 26 shots ahead of No. 15 UC Irvine, but 55 shots off the winning total registered by the UNLV Rebels.

The Lobos played in four fall tournaments and in each of those events the Lobos’ best team card came over the final 18 holes.

The final leaderboard tells the young Lobos exactly what they have to do prior to March 2, 2015 when their spring season begins at the Bruin Wave Invitational set for Tarzana, Calif.

The Lobos know exactly who they have to chase, too, if they want to defend the Mountain West crown they won in 2014 – the UNLV Rebels and possibly the San Diego State Aztecs.

The Rebels ended up tying Tulane for the top spot with a team card of 895.  Baylor was third at 898.  The San Diego State Aztecs threw out a solid 294 on Tuesday and finished sixth in the 15-team field. The Aztecs were 10 shots off the winning score at 905.

UNLV’s Dana Finkelstein finished second to medalist Hayley Davis of Baylor. The Rebels’ top golfer went 67-76-72=215 and Davis turned in cards of 65-75-74=214. SDSU’s Emma Henrikson was fifth at 218 and teammate Milagros Chavez was fifth at 220.  UNLV’s Harley Dubsky tied for sixth place at 221.

The Lobos were led by freshman Ingrid Gutierrez and sophomore Eva Saulnier, who both finished tied for the 50th spot.  Gutierrez had two solid rounds of 74 and 75 (on Tuesday), but packaged those rounds around an 88 shot on Monday.  Saulnier was the most consistent Lobo with three rounds of 79. Freshman Alexandra Moisand tied for  53rd with rounds of 75, 84, 79.
