ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Mountain West on Monday gave the University of New Mexico women’s soccer team a clean sweep in Player of the Week honors.
Redshirt freshman defender Emily Chavez earned Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while junior goalkeeper Cassie Ulrich was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Chavez, from La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, scored the only goals for the Lobos in their 1-0 victories at UNLV and Nevada on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
Chavez headed in a corner kick from junior Lindsey Guice for the game-winner in the second half against UNLV.
Against Nevada, Chavez knocked in the game-winner in the second half on a ball that the Nevada goalkeeper failed to clear.
The goals gave Chavez three on the season. The conference honor is her first.
Ulrich, who missed the previous two games with an injury, returned to post back-to-back shutouts against the Rebels and Wolf Pack.
She saved six shots in the win over UNLV and added a pair of saves against Nevada.
The shutouts were the 10th and 11th of the Rio Rancho High School product’s career, and she currently has a scoreless streak of 326 minutes and 10 seconds.
The conference honor is the second of Ulrich’s career.
