AUSTIN, Texas — There is an old adage that when you get bucked off your horse, the best thing to do is quickly get back into the saddle.  That’s exactly what Jill Trujillo’s Lobos are doing Sunday as they enter play at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational.

Trujillo said her Lobos got a bit of a bloody nose last week at a tournament in Wilmette, Ill., sponsored by Northwestern.  The Lobos aren’t wasting any time getting back onto the links.

New Mexico will compete against 14 teams in Austin and the Lobos will get another close look at the San Diego State Aztecs and the UNLV Lady Rebels, who are considered the two teams to beat in the Mountain West race this season.

The Lobos are the defending MW champions, but SDSU and UNLV carry the best rankings into the 2013-14 season.

The Lobos competing in Austin are Kalyn Thayer, Katerina Jaeger, Eva Saulner, Ingrid Gutierrez and Alexandra Moisand.

One thing Trujillo is looking for in Austin is for her Lobos to get off to a better start.  In the past two tournaments, the Lobos have posted their best round over the final 18 holes.   In last week’s Windy City Collegiate, UNM cut 16 shots going from round two to the final round.  In the Golfweek Conference Challenge, UNM cut 14 shots off its second round card.

The Lobos are still playing without their No. 1 golfer, Manon Molle.  Sophomore Katerina Jaeger fired a 72 on her final 18 holes at the Windy City, which was the second-best card she has turned in as a Lobo.  Jaeger also saved her best for last in the Golfweek event shooing a 71 on the final 18 holes.
