ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Mountain West on Wednesday named University of New Mexico senior Gavin Green as co-MW Men’s Golfer of the Month.

He shares the honor with San Jose State’s Cody Blick.

Green won the 60th annual Tucker Intercollegiate over the weekend at the UNM Championship Course. He is the first player ever to win the individual tournament three times. Green shot a 9-under 207 to defeat Texas Tech’s Clement Sordet and Guillermo Pereira by three strokes.

The senior from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia also became the first Lobo to win six individual tournaments during his college career. He had shared the school record with Tim Herron (1990-93) with five.

Green also helped the Lobos capture their third straight Tucker event, the first time that has been accomplished since the University of Houston won three in a row from 1968-70.

Earlier in the month, Green had a runner-up finish at the Gopher Invitational in Independence, Minn., and a tie for third place at the Husky Invitational in Bremerton Washington.

Green shot a 1-under 212 at the par-71 Gopher Invitational and a 1-under 215 at the par-72 Husky Invitational. He currently is ranked a career-high No. 10 collegiate golfer in the latest Golfweek.com/Sagarin poll.

He is the first Lobo golfer to earn three top-three finishes in one month and he had a 70.44 strokes-per-round average during September.

The 15th-ranked Lobos next will play the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational at the Lake Nona Golf & Country Club in Orlando, Fla. Central Florida and Texas Tech will serve as co-hosts of the event.
