BOULDER, Colo. – University of New Mexico sophomore Emily Olivier and freshman Sharon Coone both tallied last minute singles victories on the fourth and final day of the CU Invite hosted by the University of Colorado.

Coone defeated Liberty’s Nicole Wellman 7-5, 6-4 to earn the third place title in the Black draw. The Netherlands native finished her first collegiate tournament with a 2-2 singles record. Olivier also earned a third place title as she defeated Southern Illinois’ Yana Golovkina in the Silver draw, 6-1, 6-3.

“I was really impressed with Sharon and Emily today,” head coach Erica Jasper said. “Both of them had specific goals in mind and both worked exceptionally hard and came out with W’s!”

UNM’s Rachana Bhat battled for the championship title of the Silver draw on Sunday morning, but came up short against LU’s Belen Riviera, 7-5, 6-3. Bhat completed the weekend with a successful 3-1 record in singles competition.

“Despite the loss in the final, Rachana had a really good weekend,” Jasper added. “She’s got a few things to work on in the coming weeks, but it is clear to me that she is here to do business this season and push her limits on the court.”

Susan Baklini also recorded a loss on Sunday as she fell to Lexi Petrovic of Utah, 6-1, 6-3, in the battle for third place in the Ralphie draw.

UNM did not compete in any doubles matches on the final day of the CU Invite.

The Lobos will hit the road again this upcoming weekend to compete in the Wildcat Invitational taking place at the University of Arizona, Oct. 3-5.
