New Mexico Lobos Women’s Golf – At the Golfweek Conference Challenge

Sophomore Katerina Jaeger posted a career-best 71 Wednesday and freshman Ingrid Gutierrez added a 74 to help the New Mexico Lobos climb the ladder at the Golfweek Conference Challenge.
The Lobos made a small jump each of the final two days going from 15th to 14th to finish the tournament in 13th place. Sophomore Alexandra Moisand had posted solid cards of 76 and 77 over the first 36 holes, but struggled over the final 18 holes to card an 84.
Jaeger’s 71 gave her the best three-day total for New Mexico as she finished in a tie for 42nd place and Gutierrez ended up tied for the 58th spot.
The team title went to Pepperdine, who battled Tennessee down to the wire to pull out a one-shot win – 862 to 863. Denver came in third at 870. UNM finished with a three-day scorecard of 935.
The Waves were paced to the team title by Marissa Chow, who took individual honors with a scorecard of 73-70-67—210. Pepperdine had all five golfers finish in the Top 15 with Tatiana Wijaya in the No. 6 hole at 217. Tennessee made a strong charge for team honors behind Anna Newell and A.J. Newell, who both carded 54-hole cards of 214.
Jaeger had three birdies and an eagle on a par-4 to pace her to her best outing as a Lobo with her one-under 71. Gutierrez had a nice comeback on Wednesday after going 80-81 on her first two rounds. The talented freshman had two birdies against four bogeys to post the 74.
New Mexico’s next fall tournament is set for Oct. 6-7 at the Westmoreland Country Club which is located just outside of Chicago to the northwest.
The conference challenge brought in teams from 17 conferences.
