ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The UNM baseball team is pleased to announce that registration for its fall camps is now open! With seven different camps to choose from there are plenty of options to find the perfect camp for you! Can’t pick just one? Then attend several and benefit from the tutelage of the UNM coaching staff!
The purpose of Lobo Baseball Camp is to provide instruction for youth players from ages 6-18 and to expose them to the fundamentals of the game, taught by an experienced coaching staff. Older players will have the opportunity to play in front of College coaches while gaining a better understanding of what is expected of them if they want to play baseball at the next level.
Among the camps offered by Lobo Baseball this fall are two team camps (one from Nov. 1-2 and the other from Jan. 17-19), three hitters camps throughout November and December, an all-skills camp Dec. 20-21 and a pitchers and catchers camp Dec. 28-29.
Each camp will be coached by the Lobos coaching staff and held at Lobo Field.
Head coach Ray Birmingham brings over 27 years of collegiate coaching experience and has seen his players earn 35 All-America honors in seven years at UNM. Nearly 150 of his players have gone on to play professionally, include current big leagures Bobby LaFromboise and Jordan Pacheco.
Assistant coach Ken Jacome is in his 11th season with the Lobos and 19th as a collegiate coach. He has helped guide UNM to four NCAA regional appearances and four Mountain West championship seasons.
Pitching coach Dan Spencer is in his third season with the Lobos after spending four as head coach at Texas Tech. Prior to his time with the Red Raiders he helped Oregon State win back-to-back national championships, and he was named National Pitching Coach of the Year in 2007.
Tony Cappuccilli is in his first year with the program but has extensive coaching experience, including with UNLV, as head coach of the Alaska Bucs in the Alaska Summer Baseball League, and as an assistant coach in the Cape Cod League.
