Albuquerque, N.M. –  The Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational had a somewhat unexpected and definitely unwanted guest late Monday afternoon as Mother Nature crashed her way into the field and chased golfers, coaches and tournament officials to shelter.

The tournament was blasted by rain, hail and wind forcing officials to postpone the tournament at 5:38 p.m.  The 54-hole event will resume at 7:45 a.m., Tuesday to complete the second round and the golfers will continue play into the third and final round.

Northwestern had the team lead when play was stopped at five-under par followed by UNLV at two-under. UC Davis was at even par.  It might be a three-team race on Tuesday as California was 11-over par.  The New Mexico Lobos were in 15th place in the 16-team field at 38-over par. UTEP was in last place at 40-over.

Not all the second-round scores were reported as the scorekeepers on teh course also were forced

to find shelter as the quick-moving storm didn’t waste any time adding hail to the heavy rainfall. Northwestern’s Suc Tangkamolprasert and UNLV’s Dana Finkelstein were the unofficial leaders at 6-under par.  Tangkamolprasert had reported scores after 15 holes and Finkelstein had 14 holes reported to the tourney stats crew.

The Lobos are playing without their No. 1 golfer, Manon Mollé , who is out with a fracture in her foot.  The Lobos were paced on Monday by their two freshmen: Ingrid Gutierrez and Alexandra Moisand, who were both 7-over par when play was halted.
