Wayne Harley

It’s hard to know where Wayne Harley’s love of the outdoors ends and his love of the UNM ski team begins. One thing is for sure, Wayne is passionate about both.

Professionally, Wayne and his father, Joe Harley, climbed the family ladder – both literally and figuratively – as they built the Albuquerque home improvement mainstay Baldridge Lumber Company from the ground up.

Over the years, Wayne, with the support of Baldridge Lumber, has financially supported the UNM ski team. It shouldn’t be a surprise that Wayne was a founding member of the UNM varsity ski team where he participated as a student-athlete from 1968-70. As a ski team member, Wayne was a contributing member of the UNM team that was then the Central Intercollegiate Alpine League (CIAL) conference team champions seven years in a row.

In 1985, Wayne became an active supporter of the UNM ski team as a Corporate Ski Cup Board of Director, a title which he still proudly holds today. “Wayne has given back to the UNM ski team and the UNM Athletic department in a variety of ways. Not only financially but by holding board positions with the Alumni Lettermen’s Association and contributing time to the Lobo Club where he worked on fund drives and encouraged season football ticket sales,” says former UNM head ski coach George Brooks.

One of Wayne’s favorite times with the ski team was when he travelled to Nevada to be a first-hand witness of the team winning the 2004 NCAA National Championship.
