The New Mexico Lobos, Conference USA’s only team with an undefeated conference record, will look to continue a pair of streaks when they travel to South Carolina to face the Gamecocks on Saturday evening. New Mexico is looking to stay undefeated in league play while staying undefeated on the road this season. The Lobos have the same record in conference as on the road this season; 4-0-1.
The Lobos are on a five-game unbeaten streak and are among the leaders in a very competitive Conference USA. UNM is of three teams in the conference to be ranked or receive votes in this week’s NSCAA Coaches Poll. Coach Fishbein and the Lobos are also one of five C-USA teams in the NCAA’s top 50 RPI’s.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cherry & Silver took care of business against Florida Atlantic with a pair of second half goals from Chris Wehan and Riley McGovern. Here are the LoboTV highlights.
YOUTH MOVEMENT
True freshman Niko Hansen is leading the team in goals and points (six goals and 15 points). He is one of six underclassmen to have scored a point this season. That youth movement also includes Ben McKendry (two goals, two assists), Chris Wehan (two goals, one assist) and James Wypych (two assists).
STINGY MICHAEL LISCH
Goalkeeper Michael Lisch is amid a stingy streak in between the pipes. Lisch has recorded three shutouts in UNM’s last four matches, which helped earn him Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week honors two weeks ago. Lisch has conceded just one goal in his last 435 minutes of action.
FISH OFF THE PITCH
The rave reviews of Coach Fishbein’s weekly show, “Fish Off The Pitch” continue. This week’s episode included player guest Chris Wehan. As always, Coach Fishbein and host Richard Stevens talk anything and everything that’s Lobo Soccer.
