Albuquerque, N.M. – Junior Samir Iftikhar has been ranked 115th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division I Men’s Tennis preseason rankings as announced on Friday, Sept. 6.
Iftikhar has been a main contributor to the Lobo’s success during the past two seasons. He ended the 2012-13 season with an overall singles record of 21-9 and a doubles record of 8-2. Iftikhar has also been a very strong competitor within the Mountain West as he went 4-1 in singles last season.
The ITA preseason rankings are announced each year to give a suitable projection of the talent to be seen throughout the upcoming season. The ITA ranks the top 125 singles competitors from every D-1 tennis program across the country.
Other Mountain West schools that had players receive ITA preseason rankings include Boise State, San Diego State, and the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.
Iftikhar is currently in North Carolina competing in the University of North Carolina-Wilmington Collegiate Invitational. He started off the tournament by losing his doubles match with teammate James Hignett, 8-6. He followed his loss by winning his singles match, 6-0. Iftikhar is competing against fellow ITA ranked players from several different schools while the UNCW Invitational.
