TOWSON, Md. — Mary Rachel Hostetter of the University of New Mexico ski team was named Third Team Capital One Academic All-America as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

Hostetter is the third Lobo to receive Academic All-America honors for the 2012-13 year, joining men’s soccer senior Levi Rossi (Third Team) and women’s basketball senior Caroline Durbin (Second Team) who were recognized at the conclusion of their respective seasons.

A two-time letterwinner at UNM (transfer from the University of Denver) and a four-time NCAA participant, Hostetter recently graduated with a degree in Psychology with a 4.06 GPA. The Steamboat Springs, Colo., native received a number of other academic honors during her two years at UNM, including Capital One Academic All-District VII First Team, United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association All-Academic Ski Team honoree and Lobo Scholar-Athlete distinction.

In her final season of competition, she recorded four top-10 finishes in the slalom, including a career-best third place at the University of Colorado/Spencer Nelson Memorial Invitation in early January. In her fourth appearance at the NCAA Championships, Hostetter finished 20th in the slalom and 22nd in the giant slalom.

“It’s always a great honor when we have an Academic All-American,” UNM skiing head coach Fredrik Landstedt said. “For the ski team, academics come first. Mary Rachel is a very good student and athlete and she contributed a lot to our team in her two years here.”
