Albuquerque, N.M. — University of New Mexico Athletics and the Lobo Club are pleased to announce a planned gift of $500,000 to support UNM student-athletes from Rudolph B. Chavez. Through his generous gift, he has joined other generous Forever Lobo Society members that are securing the future for Lobo Athletics through an estate gift. This year alone, Forever Lobo Society membership has grown over 75% and UNM now leads the Mountain West Conference in athletics designated planned gifts with over $13 million committed.

Paul Krebs, Vice President for Athletics, said, “Rudy’s passion for Lobo Athletics has now been matched by his passion to secure the future of Lobo student-athletes! We are thankful for great supporters, like Rudy, who generously support UNM Athletics through planned giving.”

Chavez’s Lobo roots run deep, as he graduated from the UNM in Speech Communications and Political Science in 1977. During his time at UNM, he was very active as a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, the Marching Band, ASUNM Student Senate, and served on the finance committee. He continued his education at the University of Michigan Law School and graduated in 1981. Rudy practices law in Albuquerque and has received many accolades including a lifetime membership to Who’s Who in American Law.

Chavez is one of the most loyal and enthusiastic Lobo fans. He has been actively involved in Lobo Athletics through his service on Lobo Club Board of Directors for over 20 years and in the Ambassador Program, where he is a member of the Red Blazer Club and was once voted Top Fund Drive Worker.

“The extraordinary dedication to academics and athletics exemplified by UNM student athletes cannot go unrecognized or unrewarded,” said Chavez. “I hope others will join me in remembering UNM in their estate planning.”

Chavez became a Forever Lobo by naming UNM Athletics in his bequest, which will last well beyond his lifetime. The Lobo Club thanks our loyal supporters, especially those who leave a lasting legacy by including UNM Athletics in their will or estate plans.
