COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. – The U.S. Air Force Academy will serve as host to the 2013 Mountain West Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships on April 25-28, 2013, at the USAFA Tennis Facility in Colorado Springs, Colo. This is the second time in Conference history that the MW Tennis Championships will be held in Colorado Springs, as Air Force previously hosted the tournament in 2007.

On the women’s side, San Diego State (20-4), last season’s runner-up, is the No. 1 seed in the 2013 Women’s Championship. The regular season champion posted a perfect 8-0 Conference mark, and is currently riding a 14-match win streak. Seniors Julia Wais (20-13 overall, 6-2 Conference) and Alicia Aguilar (16-15, 4-4) have been key cogs in the lineup at the top two singles positions for the No. 41 Aztecs.

San Diego State last won the MW Women’s Championship in 2003 when they were the host site.

Three-time champions UNLV (2000, 2002 and 2008) are the No. 2 seed. The No. 61 Rebels (16-7) finished MW regular season action at 6-2.

Rebel junior Aleksandra Josifoska is the top-ranked MW women’s player in the national poll at No. 32. She went undefeated (7-0) in the MW at No. 1 singles, and is 31-7 on the season. Lucia Batta, playing at No. 2 singles, also had an unblemished league record at 8-0. Batta, the 2012 MW Player of the Year, is 32-5 and ranked No. 82 in the nation.

The winners of the Mountain West Men’s and Women’s Championships receive the Conference’s automatic bids to their respective NCAA tournaments.
