COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico junior Michaela Bezdickova has been selected the MW Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for competition from March 7-11. It is the first award for Bezdickova.
Bezdickova, from Olomouc, Czech Republic, went a combined 3-1 last week playing out of the No. 1 singles and doubles positions. In the Lobos’ 6-1 loss to Boise State on March 9, she won her team’s only point. She defeated Marlena Pietzuch in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6. Against Eastern Washington (a 6-1 win for New Mexico), Bezdickova turned away Moira Hedberg in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. In doubles, she and Laura Richardson lost to Boise State’s (ranked No. 40) Pietzuch and Manuela Pietzuch, 8-5, and topped Hedberg and Chrissy Uriarte of Eastern Washington, 8-6. She has won her last five singles matches and is 17-6 this season; 10-1 at the No. 1 singles spot.
