ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) – Alex Kirk had 15 points and nine rebounds and No. 14 New Mexico clinched the Mountain West Conference regular season title with a 53-42 victory over Wyoming on Saturday.
The Lobos (25-4, 12-2 MWC) went 21 for 27 from the free throw line.
Riley Grabau scored 14 points for the Cowboys (18-11, 4-11).
New Mexico closed the first half on a 13-6 run after Kendall Williams picked off a pass deep in the Wyoming end and turned it into a dunk just before the buzzer for a 25-19 lead.
Wyoming went 3 for 7 from the free throw. The Cowboys didn’t make its first free throwsuntil 6 minutes remained.
New Mexico went almost 9 minutes without a basket in the second half but the Jaspers went 7 for 9 from the line in the midst of a 13-3 run that pushed the lead to 46-34 with 4 minutes left.
