New Mexico Basketball Postgame Notes
(15 AP / 17 Coaches) UNM at (rv AP / 25 Coaches) San Diego State
Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 *** San Diego, Calif.

• New Mexico drops to 17-3 overall (4-1 MWC) following a 55-34 loss at San Diego State (16-4, 4-2 MW)

• UNM scored its fewest points since a 34-32 loss at Utah on Jan. 31, 1976…it’s also the fewest points for a Steve Alford-coached team…the previous low was 43 points when he was at Southwest Missouri State…the Bears actually beat Wisconsin 43-32 in the first round of the 1999 NCAA Tournament in Charlotte, N.C.

• UNM shot 25% (11-44) from the floor, which could be the lowest by a Lobo team since stats became available starting in 1959-60…however, a disclaimer is required since UNM does not have official statistics for every game between 1960-65…the closest to 25% came on March 15, 1998, when the Lobos made just 25.5% (14-55) against Syracuse in the NCAA Tournament in Lexington, Ky.

• UNM was outrebounded by 15 (41-26)…opponents have a +29 rebound margin (83-54) over the Lobos the past 2 games

• New Mexico suffered 16 turnovers, but its first TO did come until the 12:37 mark of the 1st half

• The Lobos were outscored 32-8 in Points in the Paint, easily the widest margin of the season

• The Lobos are 3-1 this year and 7-2 in their last 9 games against ranked opponents

• The Lobos are now 6-1 against top-50 teams in this week’s NCAA RPI rankings with wins over UConn, Indiana State, Cincinnati, UNLV, Boise State and Colorado State

• The Lobos are 7-2 away from The Pit this season (4-2 road, 3-0 neutral)…since the start of the 2011-12 season, New Mexico is 21-7 in its last 28 games away from Albuquerque, including a 11-3 record in the past 14

• UNM is 168-70 all-time when nationally ranked, 116-8 in The Pit, 37-49 on the road and 15-13 neutral

• UNM has made a 3-point FG in 713 straight games…the last game without a 3 was Jan. 3, 1991 at Colorado State (0-for-8)

• New Mexico has a 97-28 record since the start of the 2009-10 season

Head coach Steve Alford

• 451-232 in his 22nd season as a head coach

• 143-49 in his 6th year at New Mexico

• 15-7 against ranked opponents while at UNM, 6-2 at home, 6-3 on the road and 3-2 at neutral sites

• 43-28 on the road overall

• 5-8 in his career vs. San Diego State, 2-3 in The Pit, 2-4 in San Diego and 1-1 in Las Vegas

• 2-4 against nationally-ranked San Diego State teams

• 59-24 in Mountain West regular-season games, 35-7 in The Pit and 24-17 on the road

• 29-17 in all January games at UNM, 20-5 in The Pit and 9-12 on the road

• 87-11 in The Pit

• 10-5 in overtime games at UNM, 7-2 in the Mountain West regular season and 7-1 on the road

Junior G Kendall Williams

• team-high 14 points…still 26th all-time at UNM with 1,084 points…Ike Williams (1,086) is 25th

• 9th place all-time at UNM with 369 career assists…Marlon Parmer is 8th with 384
