Albuquerque, N.M. – Scott Galetti, the voice of University New Mexico Lobos’ football, basketball and baseball, received a prestigious honor this week as he was named the 2012 Sportscaster of the Year for New Mexico by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA).

Galetti, who joined the Lobo Sports Network leading play-by-play in August 2008, will receive the “New Mexico Sportscaster of the Year” award during the 54th Annual NSSA Awards Weekend in Salisbury, N.C., June 8-10, 2013. He is one of 106 winners being recognized throughout the country for excellence in sportscasting or sportswriting in their respective home state. Will Webber of the Santa Fe New Mexican will be honored as New Mexico’s sportswriter for 2012. Both Galetti and Webber are first-time winners.

Also attending the NSSA June event will be National Sportscaster of the Year Dan Patrick and National Sportswriter of the Year Peter King. Additionally, Dick Vitale and Mitch Albom will be inducted into the NSSA Hall of Fame.

“This is a great honor for Scott Galetti to be recognized as the New Mexico Broadcaster of the Year.” said Vice President for Athletics Paul Krebs. “Scott has quickly developed a great passion for Lobo Athletics.”
