Game 12 notes vs. Nevada (11/17/12)

Team:

-New Mexico game captains for Saturday’s game were RB Kasey Carrier, LB Joe Stoner and DT Ugo Uzodinma.

-UNM’s five-game losing streak is its first since opening the 2011 season with an 0-9 record.

-Nevada K Colin Ditsworth’s 23-yard field goal was the first by a Lobo opponent since the Hawai’i game on Oct. 13.

-UNM’s first onside kick attempt of the season failed in the first quarter.

-The Lobos scored their 33rd rushing TD of the season in the in the third quarter, tying the 1970 team for second on the school’s single-season list.

-UNM set a school record with its 10th 300-yard rushing game this season and tied the 1971 team with nine consecutive 300-yard games.

-Destry Berry’s third quarter sack of Nevada QB Cody Fajardo was the team’s 20th of the season. UNM had 10 sacks in all of 2011.

–UNM did not complete a pass. It was the first time UNM did not record any passing yards since Sept. 26, 1964 when the Lobos also completed 0 of 2 passes against Montana.

Offense:

-QB Cole Gautsche’s 20-yard touchdown run in the first quarter was his first score since a 76-yard run against Hawai’i during week 7 on Oct. 13. He added a 3-yard TD run in the second quarter to give him seven on the season.

-RB Kasey Carrier’s 76-yard run in the third quarter was his longest of the season, bettering a 68-yard effort at Air Force. He moved into second place on UNM’s single-season rushing list, surpassing DonTrell Moore’s 1,298 yards in 2005.

-RB Jhurell Pressley’s 2-yard TD run was his sixth of the season and first since the Texas State game on Oct. 6.

-RB Crusoe Gongbay’s 34-yard run in the first quarter was a career-long. He had a season-high in carries with nine.

Defense:

– SS Matt Raymer recorded his second sack of the season on a fourth-down stop in the first quarter at the Lobo 14.

-OLB Joseph Harris forced his first fumble of the season and the fifth of his career in the second quarter.

-CB Destry Berry’s third-quarter sack was his first of the season.

Special Teams:

-K Justus Adams’ 42-yard field goal in the second quarter was a career-long.

-P Ben Skaer’s 55-yard punt in the second quarter added to his career-high punts of 50 or more yards this season. He now has 12 in 2012.
